Our Cultural Heritage

It is culture week at HGMS. Click to learn more about cultural heritage

Cultural heritage encompasses tangible and intangible, natural and cultural, movable and immovable and documentary assets inherited from the past and transmitted to future generations by virtue of their irreplaceable value.

Cultural heritage includes

  • tangible culture (such as buildings, monuments, landscapes, books, works of art, and artifacts)
  • intangible culture (such as folklore, traditions, language, and knowledge)
  • natural heritage (including culturally significant landscapes, and biodiversity).

Importance of Cultural Heritage

  1. Cultural heritage helps us preserve cultural sites, old buildings, monuments, and landmarks that have cultural significance and historical value.
  2. It reflects and shape values, beliefs, and aspirations, thereby defining a people’s national identity.
  3. Intangible cultural heritage provides a wealth of knowledge and skills that is transmitted through it from one generation to the next.

Preservation of culture and heritage through education

The preservation of cultural heritage through education should be encouraged. It is a way of how tangible and intangible cultural heritage can be safeguarded.
